PRESENTATION ON WOMEN RIGHT FOR THE MAROONSQUARE DISCOURSE

Do you know that women have been faced with different struggles, and with the presence of insecurity and conflict, more threat have risen against their wellbeing and rights.

Women right:

The term women rights have been defined to be human rights that applies to women.[1] Thus, it is best to explain what human right is in order to get the concept of women rights copiously. Human right is perceived as an “entailment to treatment that a person enjoys simply by virtue of being a human being”[2] these rights are evident in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights (UDHR) of 1948 which consist a preamble and 30 articles, some rights includes

“Human being should be treated equally irrespective of personal characteristics or citizenship , Right to Life, live and exist, Right to Liberty, Right to security of a person, Right to love, Prohibition of slavery, Prohibition of torture, Protection of minorities, Equality before the law, Equal protection by the state, Right to nationality, Prohibition on deprivation of nationality, Right to marry, Prohibition of forced marriage, Right to own property, Prohibition on arbitrary seizure of property, Freedom of thought, Freedom of conscience , Freedom of religion,

The above is a quotation that covers the human rights as they are entitled to. Thus looking at the above stipulation it is self-evident that women are also entitled to these rights.

This work is a presentation at the day two of Maroon Square Discourse 2020, an online conference tagged ‘Struggle of Women in Nigeria Through History: Women’s Rights and challenge of insecurity in Nigeria’ organized by Maroon Square and supported by Ross Luxemburg Foundation’.
