The Boy child just like the girl child and any human has been faced with challenges, some of which is beyond their control. These challenges vary and have weighed them down. Thus, today post is to understand some of these challenges and proffer possible solutions. Some challenges are socio-economic, developmental, cultural, emotional and stereotypical in nature.
With the presence of conflict and insecurity, it is evident that just like any human during this period, a boy child safety and well-being is threatened. They are displaced, kidnapped, forced to be become child soldiers to mention a few. During these times, they are forced to do things that they do not want to do, they are tortured and mutilated, hence they need to be rescued from war. This to a large extent leave them psychologically imbalanced, makes them violent and sometimes become criminals. Subsequently, after the conflict ends, it becomes hard to return as they were before the crises and returning to the society might be a challenge. Therefore, there is a need for rehabilitation, mentorship, education to mention a few.
Correspondingly, the boy child, is faced with developmental, cultural and socio-economic issues just like any human. They are faced with lack of education, child abuses, they are molested, trafficked, discriminated and is treated and expected to be less emotional and extremely perfect. The outcome of these leads to many challenges such as health challenges, economic challenges, mental breakdown, feeling of being less loved, insecurity to mention a few. Thus, a solution to the above is that the boy child needs to be cared for, they need to be educated, rescued from poverty, empowered, mentored, honoured.
The boy child should be educated in order for illiteracy and underachievement to be at bay. The boy child should be empowered in order to keep criminality on a low level. There is also a need for the boy child to be celebrated for their achievement, they should also be taught with good values and morals. It is important for the boy child to feel safe, free, loved and not discriminated only then can the boy child thrive properly in the society. Individuals, the society and organizations have a part to play in tackling the challenges faced by the boy child. Most recently, Dr. Jerome Teelucksingh, the man who revived, conceived and coordinated the International Men day on 19 November 1999, initiated and inaugurated the world day of the boy child, which is popularly called the international boy’s day, it was set in motion to recognize the challenges a boy child face.
