Black History Film Festival

Overtime, History as been portrayed  in written and unwritten documents, visual documents to mention a few. visual documents include documentaries, movies/ films, pictures etc. In recent time important  issues and subjects relating to Africa and her development have being depicted in different movies. These issues includes   black consciousness, slavery, Africans in diaspora, liberation of African states, the situation of African economies ranging from poverty, debt, insecurity, issues of fundamental human right,  to mention a few.

On this note Today’s post is recognizing the black history film festival Unibadan.

INTRODUCTION OF BLACK HISTORY FILM FESTIVAL UNIBADAN 2018
As a token of the revival and further interrogation of black consciousness, the organisers of Black History Film Festival in the University of Ibadan wish to introduce our upcoming week-long event in honour—and celebration—of Black excellence and experience. The celebration will feature Film Festival, Open-Mic Poetry Session, Panel Discussions, Art Exhibition, Book Readings and Concerts.

The event, which is scheduled to hold between April 23-28, 2018, involves panel discussion with panellists drawn from various sections of the polity to discuss freedom of the press, history of African revolutions and other themes. Of utmost importance are the interventionist role of Cuba within the struggle for the liberation of African States from Western imperialism, the effects of Western Free Market—IMF structured development project—on African economies and a discourse on Freedom of Press in Various Nigerian government tenure. The festival will also feature movie screenings, including: Isaac Julien’s documentary on Franz Fanon’s Black Skin, White Mask; Ryan Coogler’s Fruitvale Station; Jonathan Demme’s The Agronomist; and Jihan El Tahri’s Cuba: An African Odyssey among others. Music of black origin, poetry performances and African inspired art exhibitions are equally integrated to thrill the audience throughout the duration of the programme.

The organisers of the Black History Film Festival, University of Ibadan, is pleased to introduce our week-long event which is scheduled to hold between April 23 and 28, 2018. The festival is designed to specifically address the question of Blackness—celebrating Black experience and Excellence. It is in tandem with this theme that the most enduring aspects of the African experience on the continent will be addressed.
